  • Life in Motion

Side note... I just came home to find my deadbolt locked.  Which I did not lock this morning when I went to work.  Which means that my landlord must have been in my apartment while I was gone.  WHAT THE CRAP!?!  This same thing happened at my old rent house.  What is with me and privacy-ignoring landlords?!  Ugh.

Anyway... in a related note, I did turn in my notice on my nice third floor downtown apartment last week, as Cassie deemed it was not fit for us to live in when we get married next month.  (like, FIVE WEEKS people!)  We're currently eying a 3-bedroom place in Florence.

Speaking of the wedding, we're slowly getting our invitations mailed out.  We sent the first batch last week.  I'm already saddened though by people who aren't coming.  Brent Bonds, one of my groomsmen, backed out on me due to work.  I hope he still attends the wedding though.  And Ian McAnally, one of my oldest friends, is not coming due to a See You At The Pole thing.

I've always secretly feared two things in my attention-starved, wanting-to-be-loved heart... that no one would come to my wedding and no one would come to my funeral.  I do hope to be wrong.  (on both accounts)  I'm just afraid that Athens, AL is going to be too far for most of my friends and family to put forth the effort.

  • Mama's Family... live?!

Saw a commercial for this a few minutes ago... Vicki Lawrence performing her "Mama" character live.  I used to watch this show and it reminded me of Ninnie... I think I'm totally going to this!

    "Vicki Lawrence and Mama:
    A Two Woman Show"

Emmy Award-winning comedienne Vicki Lawrence is one of the most beloved television personalities of her generation. Plucked out of total obscurity as a high school senior, Vicki went on to become part of the now-legendary cast of the "Carol Burnett Show." "I went to the Harvard School of Comedy in front of America," says Ms. Lawrence of her Burnett Show training.

In the seventh season, and hundreds of hilarious sketches later, at the ripe, old age of 24, Vicki created her most endearing character to date, Thelma Harper, or "Mama" as she is better known to her fans. After the Burnett Show, Vicki went on to star in "Mama's Family," which consistently topped the ratings for its entire six-year run of original shows. "Mama" has attained almost a cult status among her legions of loyal television viewers, who still enjoy her in reruns twice daily throughout most of the country.

For several years now, "Carol Burnett Show" alumni Harvey Korman and Tim Conway have been touring as a comedy act in casinos and performing arts centers and doing skits from the Burnett show to tremendous response. In addition, Vicki and Tim were recently coupled as parents on CBS-TV’s "Yes Dear," where their popularity garnered that sitcom its highest ratings to date. Further, the unprecedented ratings for the "Carol Burnett Showstopper Special," which recently delighted more than 50 million viewers, convinced Ms. Lawrence that the time is right to take Mama out of the closet, dust off her sensible shoes and hit the road with her new touring production, "Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show."

Ms. Lawrence will take the stage first. "My new show will not be a retrospective," she explains. "We are designing a show that is a mixture of stand-up comedy, music and my observations about real life."

She added, "I think people will get a kick out of the things Mama has an opinion about. We're creating new material with a more modern and cutting edge. Where Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected. There’s really nothing she can't do," she says. "I hope people will be pleasantly surprised by a side of Vicki they may never have seen. ... I know they will be looking forward to Mama, and for her part, that crazy old gal will be up to the challenge." Please note: You know how Mama can speak her mind. Some material in her shows may be inappropriate for younger audiences.

"Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two Woman Show"

    Time: 8:15 p.m.

  • I'll Miss You Lil' Buddy...

Mom sent me a text message yesterday:

"Well, Ozzy has gone on to be with Melvin.  About 20 minutes ago.     "

We got Ozzy when I was in the 8th grade... so we had him for about 13 years.  Originally we got him because my dad had a weenie dog when he was a boy and always said he wanted another one.  So someone at Mom's work was giving away their half-weenie, half-chihuahua puppy because he was getting a divorce and couldn't take care of him anymore.  And that's how Ozzy came into our lives.

I guess there is some sort of symmetry in the fact that he passed away 2 months and almost 1 week after Dad did.  He lived a long life, and loved eating people food... hot dogs, cheese, and oreos most of all.

The worst part is that I was in Athens with Cassie's family and thus I couldn't be there with Oz when he passed, and I couldn't be there when he was buried.

This has been a really rough year for my family.  I just hope that the worst is over... I can't stand the thought of losing any more family members.

Okay, my boss didn't end up coming yesterday.  He just called and gave me a few notes and said he'd come by sometime next week.  He sounded upbeat, so maybe I was worrying for nothing.  Maybe.  Hopefully.

We started to go see Indiana Jones last night but decided to wait so we could watch the Grey's Anatomy season finale and to go bowling with a friend of Cassie's.  He ended up canceling on us, so we ate some awesome Mexican food in Muscle Shoals and watched the finale at home.  It was good television... seems like the show finally got it's groove back.

I've been supposed to go see Mom in Corinth all week, but keep having to cancel because of work.  So right now the plan is for Cassie and I to go on Monday and take Mom and Ninnie out to eat.  Should be nice.

Speaking of Ninnie, she's been sick lately.  While I was home for Dad's funeral, I was talking to her about how sad I am that he won't be at the wedding, because he was looking forward to it more than anything else.  She said something like "Well hopefully I'll still be around for it." and I said "You'd better be!" and she started going "Well, I don't know, I've been feeling so badly lately..." etc.

I simply can't... won't... imagine getting married without her there.  I just can't.

But, don't wanna end this on a downer note, so I'll end with this:

    More_HIlarious_Pictures

Oh yeah, I bought a used copy of Grand Theft Auto IV the other day.  It's the first GTA I've played (well, except about 15 minutes with the PSP game) and so far it's actually pretty dang fun.  Don't think it's worth the perfect 10 out of 10 scores it's gettting, but it's fun nontheless.
